Ahoy, sailor! Grab your boaring pass and step aboard our luxurious ship as we sail across hot water (literally and figuratively) to find stolen gems, missing bodies, and fake beards. In the tradition of MMP’s best loved comedies such as The Last Garden Party, Eat Cake, and How to Solve a Murder, a new play sparkles with wit and wild shenanigans as an heiress with a passion for tall tales meets the consequences of her stories in hysterical fashion? What do you mean there’s a Crown Prince of Whatchamahoozit? What do you mean there’s a spy hunting for hidden assassins on the ship? Come join us for the chaos and crime spree found on the maiden voyage of our 41st Master Mystery Production…
AHOY!
Ahoy there! Set sail for a glamorous voyage aboard the S.S. Americana on a transatlantic voyage through a sea of danger, deception, and dizzying drinks. It’s an enchanted evening in 1934, and, inspired by the bouncy charm of Cole Porter musicals, Lana Lovelace, the immensely wealthy heiress of a lipstick fortune, has just got engaged to Joel Ryland, a shy London law clerk. Steaming toward New York City to meet Lana’s parents has the seasick Joel’s stomach in knots. But that’s not the only trouble. Lana thinks of her hobby of telling “embroidered” stories as a charming quirk to break up the monotony of being the idle rich. Others would call her a pathological liar. So, in a case of “Girl Cried Wolf,” when ACTUAL drama and intrigue happens aboard the ship–from disappearing bodies to jewels that vanish and reappear–no one is inclined to believe her. There’ll be mistaken identities, men in bad disguises and accents, plucky women who plunge into the underbelly of crime, and so much more chaos. If no one will believe Lana, it will be up to her to prove the unprovable. Ahoy! blends the charm and humor of Anything Goes with the glamour and cleverness of an Agatha Christie whodunit. Bon voyage!

Ahoy! reunites MMP with the Lloyd E. Frost VFW Ship 4084 where we debuted Janis Kunz’ brilliant first play, How to Solve a Murder, in November 2023. One of our most elaborate showstoppers yet, Ahoy!, written and directed by MMP legend Daniel Stallings, takes inspiration from bouncy, bubbly screwball comedies from the 1930’s like Bringing Up Baby and Cole Porter musicals like Anything Goes. All wrapped up in a clever whodunit we hope would make the Queen of Crime–Dame Agatha Christie–proud. Slapstick, slapdash disguises, and sarcasm fill every page as we watch the rich and famous bungle burglaries and murder investigations with silliness and style. The show is a fully immersive, layered experience with food, drinks, live music, and character interactions turning Ahoy! into can’t-miss entertainment this summer.

A sparkling cast of returning veterans and many MMP newcomers makes this production one of our most exciting yet, as new voices fill our stage with humor and intrigue. Dressed to the nines (with more tiaras than Buckingham Palace), the cast of Ahoy! is on a mission to bring you belly laughs. Our Gossip Ensemble will actually sit with the audience and throw shade (and maybe a few secrets) with our guests during the performances. The snark is lethal on this ship, let us tell you.

And what’s a luxury cruise without gourmet treats? Ahoy! follows a grand tradition of interactive mystery dinners with a selection of fine finger foods and customized cocktails (and mocktails) created by VFW Chef Carlos “Mo” Morales, Captain Regina Troglin, and Mixologist McKenna Sangren. We’ve chosen to create three tiers of experiences for our guests if they wish to plus their “voyage” aboard our S.S. Americana, inspired by the “classes” found about ocean liners of the time–First, Second, and Third. But don’t fret: Everyone will get the same hilarious show, which performs all around you from every angle. It’s truly immersive.
Our First Class passengers will enjoy the Captain’s Table experience, sitting with two of our royal characters with the full menu of savories, sweets, and drinks provided by the VFW (see above). This tier is $30 per guest. Seating is very limited for this tier with there being just the single Captain’s Table.
Our Second Class passengers will have the Gossip Table experience, each table sitting with a different character from our Gossip Ensemble and have a reduced menu of food and drinks. This tier is $20 per guest. Seating is more open here with five tables of seats being offered.
Our Third Class passengers are general admission for the show. While they won’t have a table to sit at nor a fixed menu, they will have seats for the show and a special treat made just for them. This tier is $15 per guest. Seating is the most open here.
Guests can also order other drinks from the VFW cantina, which serves a variety of beverages including soft drinks. All the specialty drinks at Ahoy! can also be made non-alcoholic for our guests. If a guest wants to upgrade their experience from their original ticket tier, they can pay an upgrade cost of $15 to the VFW on the performance night they attend. And once again, everyone will receive the same wonderful show no matter where you sit.

As the cherry on top, two-time Diamond Mask Award-winning actress Elise Bechtel will reprise her award-winning musical performance as jazz singer Diamond LaPore from 2025’s Murder at the Red Fez for two musical interludes during the performances. An accomplished young singer, Elise (as Diamond) will be part of our “cruise entertainment” to get the joint jumping. Showstopping showtunes full of vim and vigor from musicals such as Anything Goes and Funny Girl will set those toes to tapping at intermission and curtain call. What a delightful treat!

Music. Gourmet food and drinks. A chance to sit with the sassiest ladies. And of course…murder most seaworthy. Ahoy! is a hoot, constantly making us cackle just at rehearsals. Imagine the final product all flossed up with glitter, glitz, and glamour. You might get to see Hollywood royalty marry an ice sculpture. Those were some STRONG drinks. Anything goes around these parts!
