Game on, everyone! If your favorite crime-solving board game became a life-sized interactive experience, what would it be like? How would it feel to shrink down and meet Mrs. Peacock, Miss Scarlet, and Colonel Mustard? And what if you had a chance to interrogate them and play your own game to figure out whodunit, where, and with what? And what if, as in any good board game, the outcome changed each night? That was the impetus that led us to our 23rd Master Mystery Production we call…
FOUL PLAY
It was like a game of chess. Seven complete strangers have been invited to a unique costume party hosted by a man they know only as King. King stage-managed everything, even down to sending his special guests their costumes in advance…along with a chilling note making the invitation impossible to resist. Because each guest hides a lethal secret they thought was long dead. While the suspects try to check the King, each realize they are a pawn in a grander scheme and one wrong move could prove fatal. More than one colorful character will fall in this life-sized board game mystery where you, the player, will make the choices that decide how the game plays out. Will you finesse the King or try to keep him in check? Whodunit? How? Why? Where? And with what? Join us for this killer costume party and see how the cards land for you. Because in this sinister game of foul play, someone isn’t playing fair…
Foul Play, written and directed by Daniel Stallings, is our third collaboration with Red Rock Books after Anonymous in 2017 and Famous Last Words in 2018. Inspired by a casual comment by one of our past performers, Foul Play is our chance to create a story with multiple different solutions to it, much like the original board game or the popular movie. We designed a mystery that develops into two separate solutions to employ even more of our actors’ talents and to give audiences a reason to return. Can you discover whodunit it both solutions?
This show is cast and staffed with superstar talent, including several MMP favorites and lots of bright newcomers to our growing company. Our amazing crew has been designing and creating stellar decorations themed around board games, card games, and naturally, CLUE. Chessboard tiles, giant playing cards, big dice, a spinner for additional clues, and living meeples in the forms of our colorful suspects are all part of the multi-faceted interactive experience found in Foul Play. Guests will have the freedom to explore the store for special game cards, interrogate suspects about their motives and whereabouts, and play additional games to discover whodunit, where, and with what. Oh, and don’t forget why. At MMP, we never leave out the motive for our mysteries.
Foul Play performs all Saturdays, July 20, July 27, August 3, August 10, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at Red Rock Books. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for kids under 10, seniors, military, and past Master Mystery Productions members. Past MMP members may only receive one ticket under their own name at the discounted price and must inform the box office of a Master Mystery Production they were in to confirm identity. They are on sale now at Red Rock Books. We advise our guests that this is not a meal-based event and to wear comfortable shoes because there will be lots of exploring, eavesdropping, and searching the whole store for clues.
