The future has never looked so mysterious. We’re taking Master Mystery Productions to brand new territories with our fifteenth show and our last to be performed in the Ridgecrest-area for 2017–The Silent City. Born from the somewhat sinister imagination of a frequent MMP collaborator, writer C. R. Rowenson tackles his first solo writing project for us and designed a fantastic world of the future blending elements of mystery, horror, and science fiction into an interactive thriller that will make your heart pound. A city silenced by a quarantine. A ragtag group of individuals determined to breach those walls into investigate. A ticking clock. And an unnamed horror that lurks behind the barbed wire. What happens next? Only at the show will you know the truth.
The year is 2063, nearly a decade since mysterious quarantine of Ridgecrest, and it’s time someone found some answers.
It happened in the aftermath of the great 2054 Earthquake Swarm in Southern California. Dozens of cities were devastated, leaving millions of people without power, communication, or aid. The nation rallied in support, but in all the chaos, nobody noticed when Ridgecrest fell silent. By the time the worst of the crisis was under control, the Indian Wells Valley was under government control. Roads were destroyed, towns evacuated, and nobody has set foot in the valley since.
Until now.
You are part of The Group, a team bent on delivering truth to the world. A small number of your people have penetrated the military blockade and worked their way into the heart of the desert. Your job is to support the field team in any way you can, providing intelligence and doing whatever you can to solve the mystery of Ridgecrest, the Silent City.
The Silent City is our sixth collaboration with longtime client Ridge Writers and our third appearance at their annual Weird Weekend celebration of the stranger side of the Mojave Desert. After a sold-out performance of Hello Out There in 2015 and Pauper’s Grave in 2016, we decided to let C. R. Rowenson, co-writer on both those shows, go solo on this project. He designed the concept, theme, and wrote the entire script and clue documents. He wanted to take Master Mystery Productions into a new tone and push the boundaries of what an interactive mystery could be.

What he created was a heart-squeezing, breath-stealing, nerve-shocking adventure with a constantly ticking clock and very dangerous stakes as our audience joins a team of independent truth-seekers trying to break through the security measure sealing off the city. By solving timed challenges, analyzing reconnaissance, answering their field team’s requests, and listening in to the chilling audio files their teams receive, our guests will soon learn that The Silent City may not be so quiet after all.
The truth is stranger than fiction, and when you’re at Weird Weekend, expect it to get pretty darn weird.
The Silent City performs Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church (633 W. Las Flores Ave.) as the closing act of Ridge Writers’ fifth annual Weird Weekend. Tickets are $20 each, which buys refreshments and a seat at the show. Tickets are on sale now at Red Rock Books. The show contains mature content (strong language and elements of horror) and therefore is not recommended for young children. Seating is limited, so be sure to get your ticket before they disappear!
We’ll see you at The Silent City!
